ZSMU offers a 6-year MBBS course. The first five years of the course are dedicated to academic and practical learning. The final year is a mandatory 1 year of an internship at a university-affiliated medical hospital. The first year of the course is Pre-clinical. The students learn about the fundamentals of medical science such as History of Medicine, Histology, Medical Biology, Human Anatomy, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Pathology, and Genetics.
The second-year of the course covers Pharmacology, Pathology, and Microbiology. Subjects taught during the year include Microbiology, Virology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Normal Physiology, General Surgery, Economics, and Logics.
The third-year course covers Pathological, anatomy, and physiology. Subjects covered during this academic session include Propedeutics of pediatrics, Pharmacology, Radiology, Pharmacology, General Surgery (with Operative Surgery and Topographical Anatomy), etc.
The fourth-year is focused on Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, narcology, Medical legislation, medical psychology, physiotherapy, Medical science of law, medical genetics, Medicine of extraordinary situations, etc.
The fifth-year course covers Internal Medicine, Professional diseases, Clinical pharmacology, Surgery, children’s surgery and Oncology, children’s infectious diseases, Infectious diseases, Fundamentals of Dentistry, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT, etc.
The final year is designed to make students put all their learning into practice. Students undergo a one-year extensive internship program at a university-affiliated medical hospital.
